Kilimanjaro Insurance Guide

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is an incredible adventure — but it comes with real risks. Having the right travel insurance is not optional. This guide explains exactly what you need before you go.

Why Travel Insurance is Essential

Mount Kilimanjaro reaches 5,895 meters (19,341 ft), and altitude-related illness is common. Even fit climbers may need emergency evacuation.

1. Altitude Coverage (MOST IMPORTANT)

Not all insurance covers high-altitude trekking. You must ensure your policy explicitly covers trekking up to at least:

⚠️ If your policy only covers up to 3,000m or 4,000m, you are NOT covered on Kilimanjaro.

2. Emergency Evacuation Cover

This is the most critical part of your insurance. If something goes wrong, you may need helicopter evacuation.

3. Medical Coverage

Ensure your policy includes strong medical coverage for:

Recommended minimum: $100,000 – $500,000 medical coverage
